EBSA – When School Becomes Too Much

A Live Parent Session to Help You Understand, Support, and Reduce School-Based Distress

Mon 30th March 12.30pm

Does your child struggle to get into school…
and every morning feels like a battle you’re losing?

Maybe you’re hearing things like:
“they just need to come in”
“it’s a routine issue”
“they’re choosing not to attend”

…but what you’re seeing at home tells a very different story.

The anxiety.
The shutdowns.
The exhaustion.

The child who wants to go… but simply can’t.

You’re not imagining it. And you’re not alone.

This live, small-group session will help you understand what’s really driving EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), why traditional approaches often make things worse, and how to begin supporting your child in a way that actually works.

A one-hour live session with Sara Donnelly
Former Headteacher, SEN Specialist, and Consultant

Sara has supported hundreds of families navigating EBSA, school distress, and unmet need — and understands how overwhelming and isolating it can feel when nothing seems to be working.

This session is intentionally kept small to allow space for real conversation, not just content.

In just 60 minutes, you’ll learn:

  • What EBSA actually is — and why it is not “just refusal”

  • What’s happening in your child’s nervous system (and why school can feel unsafe)

  • Why forcing attendance can escalate distress — and what to do instead

  • The link between masking, burnout, and school avoidance

  • How to respond in the moment without increasing anxiety or conflict

  • Practical ways to begin rebuilding safety, trust, and regulation

  • How to approach school conversations with more clarity and confidence

Hi, I'm Sara Donnelly

WHAT MAKES ME DIFFERENT?

What sets me apart is the wealth of experience I bring from over a decade in education, supporting children's mental health and well-being. As a headteacher with a specialisation in autism and neurodivergence particularly in girls, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges children face.

Additionally, my lived experience as a mother of neurodivergent children gives me a personal and empathetic perspective that enhances my approach as I fully understand the struggle so many parents face. I am passionate about empowering the child's voice, helping them find self-understanding, and fostering an environment where they feel seen and heard.
